  White Cloud   Newaygo
White Cloud was originally called Morgantown after one of the founding fathers. It was changed to White Cloud at the request of local postmasters because of the confusion created with having 2 Morgantowns in Michigan. White Cloud is at the heart of Newaygo County. It is where all of the county offices, jail, and court rooms are. To see some photographs of White Cloud click here.   Newaygo's history starts way back in the mid 1700's when French explorers traveled up the Muskegon River. The Newaygo city area became popular with loggers because of its location on the Muskegon River and the area being rich with red and white pine. Newaygo got its name after an Indian Chief named Naw-wa-goo, that signed the Treaty of Saginaw in 1812. Today Newaygo still thrives as a beautiful recreational playland. Many small businesses poliferate the area. To see some photographs of Newaygo click the here.
